A Very Specific POS Use Case that Illustrates the Power of Configuration

In our latest release of Aptos ONE, 2025.4, we introduced the ability to extend the functionality available in the POS cart via a configurable form. Let’s talk about why this is important.

Retailers are always looking for ways to differentiate themselves. Services like alterations, personalization, and custom ordering have become critical touchpoints that can transform a routine transaction into a memorable customer experience. These value-added services not only increase average transaction values but also build customer loyalty and set retailers apart from their competitors.

Whether it’s capturing measurements for tailoring services, collecting personalization details for custom and monogrammed products, or providing delivery information such as available times of day or drop-off instructions, configurable forms now enable retailers to seamlessly integrate these differentiating services directly into the point of sale experience.

Configurable Forms: How They Work

Aptos ONE can be configured to allow the store associate to select an option to call the configurable form during entry of a POS transaction. This includes having a button configured to appear on the cart as well as being able to configure a form to automatically pop up when an item is added to the cart. Aptos ONE can support multiple forms, and the retailer can configure different forms to be linked to different merchandise items.

Take, for example, an alteration request. A retailer can configure Aptos ONE so that a button labeled “alterations” appears as an option when specific merchandise items are entered into the transaction. The store associate completes the alteration form, and data from the customer alteration is added to the POS transaction and the customer receipt.

The Innovation Is in the How – Not the What

Before we go any further, let’s address the obvious. We are not saying that providing the ability to support retailers’ needs for capturing details related to value-added services has never been done before.

In fact, as the leader in POS for many of the world’s largest apparel and fashion retailers, we’ve enabled support for services like monogramming and alterations in the past in Aptos Store, our long-standing Windows-based POS application. But in Aptos Store this was done via customization – involving SOWs and our professional services team.

Now, with Aptos ONE and configurable forms, retailers have at their fingertips the ability to extend and differentiate their POS solution faster than ever before to support value-added services, giving them full flexibility to decide what is best for their business, customers, and associates – no Aptos involvement needed.

Configuration Unlocks Innumerable Advantages

With Aptos ONE (unified commerce platform) and Aptos ONE POS (modern POS solution), we invested heavily in configuration. Why? Because we believe that modern, enterprise-grade retail SaaS products require high configurability as well as robust extensibility and a strong integration framework. In fact, we now have over 1,000 configuration settings in Aptos ONE, right out of the box.

And while configurable forms are just one example, they illustrate the advantages of configurability and extensibility. In essence, they provide a way for retailers to make the solution their own while preserving all the benefits of running a modern, true SaaS product on a single code base – benefits like cost savings, easy upgrades and maintenance, faster time to value, and a solution built for change.

The introduction of configurable forms in Aptos ONE is a clear example of our commitment to putting the power of adaptation into retailers’ hands.

The POS and retail software landscape is changing fast. At Aptos, we’re at the forefront of challenging what’s been done in the past and unlocking innovation pathways for our customers.
